The California Supreme Court has appointed two judges to a committee responsible for vetting candidates for the State Bar Court. Judge Lucy Armendariz of the Superior Court of Los Angeles County and Judge Monica Wiley of the Superior Court of San Francisco County will join the Applicant Evaluation and Nomination Committee. Judge Armendariz will serve as chair, while Judge Wiley will take on the role of vice chair, effective immediately.

They replace Justice Sandra Margulies, former chair from the First District Court of Appeal, and Judge Winifred Smith from the Superior Court of Alameda County, who have retired.

The seven-member volunteer committee is tasked with soliciting, screening, and evaluating applications for appointments to the State Bar Court of California, which adjudicates attorney discipline cases. Other members include attorneys Kenneth Babcock, Victor Revenko, and Alice Salvo, along with non-attorney trustees Genaro Trejo and Mark Toney from the State Bar Board of Trustees.

The committee operates under rule 9.11 of the California Rules of Court.
