Attorney General Steve Marshall has announced the conviction of Terry DeWayne Herring, a 28-year-old resident of Pell City, St. Clair County, on multiple counts related to child pornography and transmitting obscene matter to a minor. Herring pleaded guilty in St. Clair County Circuit Court to five counts of possession of obscene matter with intent to disseminate images and videos depicting individuals under the age of 17, and one count of transmitting obscene matter to a child.
Herring received a sentence of 15 years in the Alabama Department of Corrections. Following his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender and comply with all mandates outlined in Alabama’s Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act.
“This was an unusually heinous crime. One that causes unimaginable hurt and damage the victims, who are children,” stated Attorney General Marshall. “Protecting victims and especially children is the top priority of the Attorney General’s Office and I am glad that justice was served so that the victims and their families in this case can begin the process of healing.”
Attorney General Marshall praised his Criminal Trials Division for their effective prosecution of this case, specifically acknowledging Assistant Attorneys General Jillian Jordan Evans and Audrey Jordan, along with Special Agents from his Investigations Division and the Cybercrime Unit.
