The South Central Judicial District Court in Mandan, North Dakota, has announced a job opening for the position of Law Clerk. The successful candidate will work within the District Court Judge Chambers and will receive an annual salary of $74,460.00.

This role involves supporting a judge by conducting extensive legal research and analysis of legal issues and cases to make recommendations on case dispositions. It also provides an opportunity for the successful candidate to advance to the position of Staff Attorney-District Court after gaining two years of experience and obtaining a license to practice law in North Dakota.

The ideal candidate should have strong oral and written communication skills, enjoy researching and writing, be detail-oriented, demonstrate sound judgment, thrive under a constant workload, and be highly dependable. Additionally, candidates must hold a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and have some related experience in legal research and writing. Certification from the American Association of Electronic Reporters and Transcribers (AAERT) as a Certified Electronic Court Reporter (CER) is required within six months of job entry unless substituted by comparable certification from another state or federal court.

The primary responsibilities include providing legal research assistance to judges or justices, preparing case summaries and legal memoranda, making verbatim records of court proceedings using audio recording equipment, analyzing legal issues and arguments, drafting proposed opinions as directed by judges or justices, attending hearings or trials where research may be needed to assist the court, accurately recording court proceedings using computer-aided equipment per state requirements, taking court notes during hearings, administering oaths in courtroom settings among other clerking duties.
