A statement from the legal team representing the family of George Floyd including Attorneys Benjamin L. Crump, Jeff Storms, Antonio M. Romanucci and Bhavani K. Raveendran:
"This weekend will be four years since the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. The heart-wrenching video of his death at the hands of police spurred a new wave of civil rights advocacy, as people took to the streets around the world to share their anger as well as their calls for change. Their hope for the future that was interwoven into those rallies has been challenged in the last four years, as some but not nearly all of the important changes have been made to the way police are hired, trained, and managed, as well as how they engage with communities of color.
We also still see the deep impact the death of George Floyd had, in particular, in the Minneapolis community at 38th & Chicago and for those who witnessed the tragedy firsthand. This spring, witness Donald Williams' case against Minneapolis Police and the City was settled and is a reflection of the level of personal trauma that has impacted his life... and which also reverberates throughout the community."
