Justice Department files antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation-Ticketmaster

On May 23, 2024, the Justice Department, along with 30 state and district attorneys general, filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Live Nation Entertainment Inc. and its wholly-owned subsidiary, Ticketmaster LLC (Live Nation-Ticketmaster). The suit alleges monopolization and other unlawful conduct that hinders competition in markets across the live entertainment industry.

The lawsuit seeks structural relief to restore competition within the live concert industry. According to officials, this action aims to provide better choices at lower prices for fans and open venue doors for working musicians and other performance artists.

Attorney General Merrick B. Garland stated: "This lawsuit is about ensuring that fans of live music are not denied access to affordable tickets or fair treatment by ticketing services."

Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco emphasized: "Our goal is to break up practices that harm consumers and artists alike in an industry that should be thriving on creativity and fair play."

Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter added: "We are committed to dismantling monopolistic structures that have far-reaching negative impacts on both performers and audiences."
