Attorney General Michelle Henry has announced that Porice D. Mincy, a 32-year-old woman from Cameron County, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault for shooting District Attorney Paul J. Malizia in his office last year. The plea was entered on Monday in Cameron County Court, where Senior Judge Pamela Ruest sentenced Mincy to serve between four and eight years in state prison.

The charges were prosecuted by the Office of Attorney General following an investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police into the shooting incident that occurred on June 14, 2023. Following the attack, Malizia received treatment at a local hospital and was discharged on the same day.

In her statement, Attorney General Henry expressed her concern over the violent act committed against an elected official sworn to protect his community. She said, “This brazen act of violence is particularly disturbing because it involves an armed individual shooting an elected official sworn to serve and protect his community.” She also commended District Attorney Malizia for his continued commitment to serving his community despite experiencing such a traumatic assault.

According to reports, Mincy visited Malizia's private practice office unannounced on June 14, 2023, with demands regarding a property transfer that Malizia had handled. After arriving at the office, Mincy became belligerent and during the ensuing altercation shot Malizia in the leg before fleeing the scene.

The investigation revealed that Mincy targeted Malizia due to a dispute related to his private law practice rather than his role as district attorney. Deputy Attorney General Philip McCarthy of the Office of Attorney General’s Criminal Prosecutions Section led the prosecution of this case.
