Vermont resident sentenced for possession of child sexual abuse material

The Attorney General’s Office has announced that Everett Kidder, a 56-year-old resident of Braintree, Vermont, was sentenced today in the Vermont Superior Court, Lamoille Criminal Division. Mr. Kidder pleaded guilty to one felony count of Possession of Child Pornography, now referred to as Child Sexual Abuse Material.

Presiding Judge Mary Morrissey sentenced the defendant by plea agreement to a term of one year in jail and a 10-year probation period. The conditions of this probation require Mr. Kidder to complete sex offender treatment while incarcerated, maintain no contact with minors, and limit his access to the internet.

The Vermont Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (VT-ICAC) is responsible for investigating cases of child sexual exploitation occurring over the internet. This includes the production and online distribution of child sexual abuse materials. VT-ICAC also offers forensic examination services, technical assistance, law enforcement training, and public education and outreach.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) serves as the nation’s centralized reporting system for online exploitation of children. The public can report suspected instances of online enticement of children for sexual acts, child sexual molestation, child sexual abuse material, child sex tourism, child sex trafficking, unsolicited obscene materials sent to a child, misleading domain names or digital images on the internet. Reports can be made by calling the 24-hour call center at 1-800-843-5678 or visiting https://report.cybertip.org.

NCMEC also provides support for those recovering from child sexual exploitation. This includes emotional and peer support, assistance with removing content from the internet and help locating mental health professionals.
