BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - A woman who claimed her Uber driver sexually assaulted her has sued the ride-sharing company in Massachusetts state court.

In an April 9 lawsuit filed Suffolk County Superior Court, plaintiff Rebecca Check is accusing defendants Sonpreet Singh, Rasier LLC, and Uber Technologies Inc. of sexual battery and negligence.

The complaint alleges that on April 9, 2021, Check requested an Uber ride home from Boston to Brighton. During the ride, Singh allegedly made sexually inappropriate comments towards Check and physically assaulted her upon arrival at her destination.

Singh was arrested shortly after the alleged incident.

The suit also implicates Rasier LLC and Uber Technologies Inc., both Delaware-based companies with offices in Massachusetts and California. The companies are accused of negligence in their role as providers of rideshare services in Massachusetts.

According to the filing, these companies set pricing for passenger fares, collect payments from passengers, disburse payments to drivers, and require the use of the Uber app for setting up rides.

Check is seeking damages for emotional injuries, mental pain and suffering, medical expenses incurred as a result of the alleged assault, and loss of enjoyment of life.
