Nancy B. Ryan, an accomplished corporate lawyer and in-house counsel for two Fortune 500 technology companies, has joined McGuireWoods as a partner in New York.

Nancy has nearly three decades of experience negotiating and managing commercial and technology agreements, including outsourcing arrangements, supply chain contracts, and data privacy and security agreements. She joins McGuireWoods after serving as a director at NetApp Inc., a multinational storage, data management, hardware, software and cloud services company with over 10,000 employees worldwide.

Nancy was lead counsel for NetApp’s North America sales teams. She provided strategic guidance on new business initiatives, including enterprise software licensing and consumption and as-a-service business models, and led a team of attorneys and contract managers responsible for negotiating multimillion-dollar commercial contracts.

Before joining NetApp in 2014, Nancy was senior counsel at Xerox Corp. She provided legal guidance for three of the company’s worldwide business divisions and drafted and negotiated a variety of business outsourcing and technology agreements.

“Nancy has a wealth of experience negotiating and managing intricate technology and outsourcing agreements and helping companies manage risk,” said Richard W. Viola, deputy managing partner of McGuireWoods’ corporate practice. “Her in-depth knowledge and business acumen have immense value for our team and clients.”

Partner and department chair Greg Kilpatrick said Nancy strengthens the firm’s capabilities in technology and outsourcing matters as well as data privacy, supply chain contracts and vendor management contracts.

“Nancy knows firsthand the unique business and legal challenges companies face as information systems evolve and become more complicated,” Kilpatrick said. “That perspective gives our clients a competitive advantage.”

Said Jeffrey Chapman, managing partner of the firm’s New York office: “Nancy is an outstanding addition as we continue expanding our client service capabilities in New York.”

McGuireWoods’ technology and outsourcing team handles issues that come with large-scale outsourcing arrangements as well as other licensing and technology procurements. The team assists in corporate transactions, software audits, and dispute prevention and resolution. The firm earned nationwide rankings for technology transactions and outsourcing matters in the Legal 500 United States.

“McGuireWoods has a respected and sophisticated corporate practice with international reach, and I am excited to join this world-class team,” Nancy said.
