Helen Lee, a trusted advisor to financial institutions and fintech companies, has joined Troutman Pepper’s Corporate Practice Group in New York as counsel. Lee joins the firm’s market-leading financial services team after serving as senior legal counsel for a multinational third-party payments platform.

“We are delighted to welcome Helen to our Corporate Practice Group,” said Mason Bayler, chair of Troutman Pepper’s Transactional Department. “Her impressive track record advising financial institutions and fintech companies on regulatory matters aligns perfectly with our goal to provide comprehensive, top-tier legal services.”

With more than 15 years of large firm and in-house experience, Lee advises global financial institutions, fintechs, and other financial services companies on key regulatory and compliance issues. She counsels on chartering and licensing, permissible activities, safety and soundness, anti-money laundering, and sanctions enforcement, among other areas. Lee offers deep familiarity with the commercial and legal issues involved with her clients’ products and services, regularly advising on mobile financial services and digital banking.

“Joining Troutman Pepper is an exciting new chapter for my practice,” Lee said. “The firm’s commitment to client service and reputation for innovation in the financial services sector is what makes it the ideal platform. I look forward to leveraging my experience to contribute to the firm’s dynamic team, and to help our clients navigate the complex regulatory landscape.”

Lee earned her J.D. from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A. from New York University.

Lee’s arrival comes on the heels of the recruitment of bank regulatory attorneys Kevin Petrasic and Matthew Bornfreund, who joined the firm last month and with whom Lee worked at a prior firm. This year, Troutman Pepper has experienced substantial expansion across several of its offices, including Atlanta, Berwyn, Charlotte, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia. Since January, the firm has welcomed nine partners and two counsel.

“I am excited to be reuniting with Helen,” Petrasic said. “I started working with her at the beginning of the financial crisis, and we worked together in private practice for more than a decade. She is an exceptionally skilled and experienced core bank regulatory attorney with significant payments experience. Her addition is another significant step in the expansion of Troutman Pepper’s bank regulatory practice.”

Troutman Pepper’s Financial Services Group provides comprehensive support to all types of financial services businesses in today’s challenging and ever-changing environment. The team includes more than 250 attorneys who regularly advise global, national, regional, and community banks, financial technology companies, payments companies, consumer and commercial lenders, and a wide variety of other financial services businesses on the most crucial aspects of their business, from structuring major transactions to dealing with regulatory scrutiny and litigation.
