Attorney General Ashley Moody has taken action against two individuals involved in organized retail theft. Raheem Davis Jr. and his co-defendant Vayshoun Harris are now facing criminal charges for a series of robberies at Home Depot stores across multiple counties in Florida. These crimes were characterized by physical violence against store employees.
Moody emphasized the severity of the situation, stating, “These two criminals committed multiple robberies at Home Depot stores across five counties, violently assaulting employees in the process. In one incident, a defendant even pepper sprayed a cashier in the face. We do not stand for organized retail theft in this state, especially theft that involves violence... We will continue to hold these thieves accountable.”
The investigation revealed that Davis and Harris targeted various Home Depot locations, filling shopping carts with merchandise and attempting to pay with counterfeit bills exceeding $1,000 each time. When their fraudulent actions were discovered, Davis resorted to violence, including assaulting employees and pepper spraying a clerk in one instance. Harris played a role either as a lookout or in transporting stolen goods to their vehicle.
Davis, identified as the leader of the criminal duo, is now facing multiple charges including burglary with assault or battery, robbery with a weapon, robbery, attempted robbery, and battery on an elderly person. Both Davis and Harris are currently detained in other counties for unrelated offenses.
The case will be prosecuted by Attorney General Moody’s Office of Statewide Prosecution and is set to be tried in Palm Beach County.
This swift and decisive action by Attorney General Moody underscores the state’s commitment to combatting organized retail theft and ensuring accountability for those who engage in such criminal activities.
