SAN DIEGO (Legal Newsline) - A federal class action lawsuit alleges Ocean Spray is adding too much sugar to its fruit snacks.

Ocean Spray Cranberries, Inc. is facing a lawsuit filed March 25 in San Diego federal court by plaintiffs Ann Elders and Rebecca Crampton on behalf of themselves and others similarly situated.

Attorney Jack Fitzgerald of Fitzgerald Monroe Flynn represents the plaintiffs.

The plaintiffs allege that Ocean Spray's labeling of its "Craisins Dried Cranberries" and "Cranberry Bites" products as meeting the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) “MyPlate” dietary recommendations and being a wholesome snack is false and misleading.

They argue that these products contain high amounts of added sugar, which increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, metabolic disease, and liver disease. This contradicts authoritative recommendations, including those by the USDA.

The plaintiffs are seeking to stop Ocean Spray from marketing its products in this manner and to recover compensation for injured class members.
