Attorney General Miyares has joined a coalition of 27 states in condemning the Environmental Protection Agency's proposed rule to expand regulations on liquid waste produced by meat and poultry processing plants in the United States. The expansion of regulatory authority has raised concerns about its potential economic impacts on businesses and consumers, particularly in rural America.

"The Biden Administration continues to try and find ways to expand its authority by sidestepping Congress and the American people. This latest attempt would cripple small meat and poultry processing plants, imposing heavy new regulatory costs and hurting rural America," Attorney General Miyares expressed.

The proposed rule is a result of a settlement agreement between the EPA and environmental groups, prompting worries about due process and transparency in the regulatory process. Virginia has stood alongside 26 other states, including Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, and many more, to oppose the expansion of EPA regulations on meat processing facilities.

The coalition's efforts aim to address the potential negative impacts of the proposed rule on businesses and consumers across the country. Attorney General Miyares and the coalition are advocating for a reconsideration of the EPA's regulatory authority to prevent adverse consequences on the meat and poultry processing industry in the United States.
