Ogletree Deakins, one of the largest labor and employment law firms representing management, is pleased to welcome Harris Freier as shareholder in the firm’s Morristown office. Freier joins Ogletree Deakins from Genova Burns, where he was a partner, as well as Chair of the firm’s Privacy & Cybersecurity Practice and Co-Chair of the Trade Secrets & Non-Competes Practice.

For the better part of two decades, Freier has served as a trusted counselor to employers. His litigation practice focuses on restrictive covenants, discrimination, employee benefits, wage and hour, class action, and appellate matters. Freier has won a number of significant appellate victories for his clients, including published cases which set forth the state of the law of restrictive covenants in New Jersey. He has successfully represented clients in numerous high-stakes matters, including those involving trade secrets.   Freier is also a trial lawyer, having won major victories for his clients in various forums and formats in New Jersey and New York, including jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations.

Freier is a Certified Information Privacy Technologist (CIPT) and Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) with a focus on U.S. privacy law. He will serve as a critical new member of Ogletree Deakins’ burgeoning Cybersecurity and Privacy Practice Group. The group of nearly two dozen talented attorneys advises businesses around the world on compliance with the evolving laws governing the transmission and storage of data.

“Harris is one of the region’s foremost authorities on restrictive covenants and is a go-to advisor for companies who face data breaches and other malicious hacks,” said Steven Luckner, office managing shareholder of Ogletree Deakins’ Morristown office. “His unique skill set and deep knowledge will further the reach of Ogletree Deakins in the Northeast and expand upon the excellent offerings we provide to our clients, both locally and across the country. We are thrilled to welcome Harris to the firm.”

Freier is a leader in his community, serving as the immediate Past Chair of the Urban League of Union County, Board of Trustees member for Temple Emanu-El of Westfield, and a past Board member of the Gateway Regional Chamber of Commerce and the New York City Workforce Professionals Training Institute. He has dedicated many hours to pro bono representation, winning a reversal of a summary judgment before the U.S. Third Circuit Court of Appeals for his client in a prison abuse case. Freier earned his B.A. with distinction from the University of Virginia and his J.D., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School.
