Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has successfully obtained a temporary restraining order against the Frisco Independent School District ("ISD") to halt illegal electioneering activities. The court's decision came after public employees were found to be misusing state resources to influence the ongoing primary elections.
Attorney General Paxton took legal action against Frisco ISD on February 28 for using official resources to promote specific policies and political measures, a direct violation of the Texas Election Code. The code explicitly prohibits the use of state or local funds for electioneering purposes.
In a statement, Attorney General Paxton emphasized the seriousness of illegal electioneering, warning that violators could face criminal prosecution by local authorities. Despite the current inability to pursue criminal charges due to a legal decision, Paxton has secured a temporary restraining order to address the issue.
The legal action against Frisco ISD is part of a broader initiative by Attorney General Paxton to safeguard the integrity of Texas elections. Similar lawsuits have been filed against other school districts, including Denton ISD, Denison ISD, and Castleberry ISD. The Attorney General's Office is actively investigating additional potential violations across the state.
As the investigation continues, Attorney General Paxton remains committed to using all available means to prevent public officials from unlawfully influencing elections through the misuse of state resources.
