Attorney General Michelle Henry announced the formal continuation of an ongoing partnership between the Office of Attorney General and the United States’ Department of Labor.

This collaborative effort comes in the form of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which allows the Office of Attorney General and the Department of Labor to collaborate on enforcement and education initiatives and investigations.

The Memorandum of Understanding will promote greater protections for workers on issues such as wage theft, employee misclassification, and other workers’ rights concerns.

“The larger and stronger the alliance in place to support workers who want to provide for their families and communities, the better off we will all be,” Attorney General Henry said. “Employers and workers deserve clear and concise laws to follow, and this partnership will ensure those protections remain in place.”

In 2017, the Office of Attorney General created the Fair Labor Section that promotes fair labor practices to ensure Pennsylvania workers are protected from employers who break the law and take advantage of employees to increase their own profits.

“The Wage and Hour Division recognizes the value of enhancing our collaborative relationship with the Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General to maximize the enforcement of the laws administered by the two agencies,” said Wage and Hour Division Regional Administrator Mark Watson in Philadelphia. “Our partnership reflects a joint commitment to improve our effectiveness in serving workers and ensuring employers are compliant with federal and state laws.”

The Memorandum of Understanding has been signed by both Attorney General Michelle Henry and Wage and Hour Division Regional Administrator Mark Watson.
