TALLAHASSEE, Fla.—As millions of Americans gear up for Super Bowl Sunday, Attorney General Ashley Moody is calling on football fans to celebrate responsibly and avoid drinking and driving. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has reported a concerning increase in alcohol-related fatal crashes during the Super Bowl, with nearly 11,000 lives lost each year to impaired driving from 2012 to 2021.

In a statement, Attorney General Moody emphasized the importance of celebrating safely, stating, "Millions of Americans are getting ready to celebrate Super Bowl Sunday! It is easy to get carried away during the final NFL game of the season, but it is important to remember to celebrate safely. I’m urging Floridians to never drink and drive."

With the Super Bowl being the most-watched television event of the year, many Americans will be attending watch parties and hitting the roads. To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience, Attorney General Moody has provided the following safety tips:

- Establish a designated driver beforehand;

- Use ride-share services or call a cab instead of drinking and driving;

- Use caution on the roadways and be vigilant of dangerous driving; and

- Fasten seatbelts when driving or riding in a vehicle.

The NHTSA warns that alcohol, marijuana, and other drugs can impair driving abilities due to slowed coordination, judgment, and reaction times. By celebrating responsibly and refraining from driving while impaired, Floridians can contribute to safer roads during Super Bowl LVIII.
