Attorney General Jason Miyares of Virginia has unveiled a new television advertisement as part of the Operation Ceasefire campaign. The 30-second spot, titled "Game Over," aims to raise awareness about the consequences of gun crime in Virginia.

In the ad, Attorney General Miyares emphasizes that gun violence is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. He states, "Gun violence is not a game. As your Attorney General, I'm facing it head-on. This public awareness campaign will send a strong message to at-risk youth and repeat offenders that if you commit a gun crime in Virginia, it's game over."

The advertisement will be broadcasted on cable, broadcast, and digital/social media platforms in the Richmond, Norfolk, and Roanoke media markets. The campaign will specifically target high gun crime volume Ceasefire cities. Radio advertisements will also be launched next week. The campaign is set to run until October 2024.

Operation Ceasefire, announced by Attorney General Miyares in October 2022, is a comprehensive approach to tackling gun and gang violence in Virginia. It involves prosecution, prevention, group violence intervention strategies, and collaboration with local communities to reduce and prevent violent gun and gang crimes.

In 2023 alone, Ceasefire prosecutions led to over 100 indictments and resulted in 140 years of sentences. Attorney General Miyares' new television ad will further amplify the message of the campaign by highlighting the real and lasting consequences of gun violence.

The campaign will utilize various media channels, including social media, television commercials, and billboards, to communicate the importance of addressing gun violence. It will also provide Virginians in ceasefire cities with tiplines, community resources, news, and updates through the official Ceasefire Virginia website.

Attorney General Miyares urges the public to visit the website, https://ceasefirevirginia.org/, to learn more about the campaign and to access the available resources.

With this new television ad, Attorney General Miyares is determined to make a significant impact in curbing gun crime in Virginia. By raising awareness and promoting the consequences of illegal gun possession, the Operation Ceasefire campaign aims to create a safer environment for all residents of the Commonwealth.
