Janesville Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for 2021 Death in Wisconsin Dells

A Janesville man, Jeremy Lee Mondy, has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement in a death that occurred in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The sentencing was carried out by Columbia County Judge Todd Hepler, who deemed that Mondy's actions warranted a lengthy imprisonment.

Attorney General Kaul expressed his satisfaction with the sentencing, stating, "This sentence will keep the public safe from this defendant for a very long time. Thank you to the investigators and prosecution team for ensuring that justice was served in this case."

Mondy was found guilty of First-Degree Intentional Homicide, Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Domestic, and Felony Bail Jumping. Judge Hepler handed down a life sentence with eligibility for extended supervision in 2068 for the charge of First-Degree Intentional Homicide. Additionally, Mondy received three years of initial confinement with three years of extended supervision for the charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. For Misdemeanor Bail Jumping, Domestic, he was sentenced to nine months, and for Felony Bail Jumping, he received three years of initial confinement with three years of extended supervision. All of these sentences will run concurrently.

The incident in question took place on February 13, 2021, in Wisconsin Dells. Wisconsin Dells police officers responded to a welfare check at a room on River Rd. Upon arrival, they encountered Mondy, who claimed to be fine. However, when asked about the female individual in the room, Mondy revealed that she was deceased. Further investigation revealed that Mondy had attempted to destroy evidence and escape to Chicago.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant Attorneys General Adrienne Blais and Ed Minser, with the assistance of various individuals, including DOJ Paralegal Rochelle Ederer, Columbia County Victim/Witness Coordinator Linda Shawback, DCI Special Agent Rafael De La Rosa, DCI Special Agent James Pertzborn, Wisconsin Dells Police Chief Nick Brinker, and Wisconsin Dells Police Detective Sergeant Brent Brown.
