Stephen A. Houston, an attorney in Steptoe & Johnson PLLC’s Louisville office, was selected to serve as Chair of the Kentucky Bar Association’s Equine Law Section. The Equine Law Section supports the exchange of ideas regarding legal issues related to horses and the equestrian industry in the Kentucky Bar Association and recommends new procedures and statutes to improve the practice of equine law in Kentucky.

“Horses have played a huge role in human history via transportation, agriculture, war, sport, and most importantly, enjoyment,” said Steptoe & Johnson’s Equine Law Team Leader, Stephen Houston. “Kentucky is a mecca for horse lovers and the Kentucky Bar Association Equine Section has played an important role in protecting and furthering equine associations and activities. I’m honored to be a small part of that history and its ongoing efforts.”

As Chair of the Equine Law Section, Houston will serve as the primary Executive Officer, overseeing and leading meetings for both the Section and the Executive Committee. Additionally, he will be responsible for supervising all programs within the Section and providing comprehensive reports on its activities to the Kentucky Bar Association.

Houston has more than 20 years of experience helping his clients in all aspects of equestrian activities, including purchase and sale contracts, liability issues, regulations, insurance, animal welfare, dispute resolution, business planning, taxation, and breeding disputes. He also has a background in planning and zoning issues, closely held business disputes, estate planning, and environmental law matters.
