She noted that it’s critical to stop any further breach if a HIPAA violation is discovered and to implement improvement in policies and procedures to prevent a recurrence.
“You want to demonstrate voluntary compliance, and that’s done by promptly addressing the issue, making the corrections, making updates to the procedures if needed, ensuring that the patients are timely notified, and ensuring that the staff is educated,” she said.
