Attorney General Steve Marshall announced that a Montgomery County Grand Jury has returned a nine-count indictment against Tiffany Alexander Fields for the theft of over 1,000 Hydrocodone tablets from a Montgomery area nursing home, while she was employed as the facility’s director of nursing.
The indictment alleges that Fields, 45, on nine different occasions from December 2022 to March 2023, obtained 114 to 120 Hydrocodone tablets from the nursing home’s contract pharmacy by submitting phony prescriptions purportedly for residents of the nursing home, which she then kept. Theft of any controlled substance is considered Theft of Property Second Degree, a Class C felony, and punishable by one to ten years imprisonment and up to a $15,000 fine.
Fields surrendered at the Montgomery County Detention Facility on December 7. She was released on a $50,000 bond.
The Alabama Department of Public Health referred the nursing home complaint to the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud Control Unit for investigation and prosecution. The case was presented to the November 2023 term of the Montgomery County Grand Jury.
The Medicaid Fraud Control Unit is a division of the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and receives 75% of its funding ($1.5 million for fiscal year 2024) from the US Department of Health and Human Services Office of Inspector General.
