Attorney General Jason Miyares of the Commonwealth of Virginia has announced some significant senior leadership transitions within his administration. Deputy Attorney General of Criminal Justice and Public Safety Nicole Wittmann will be joining the Loudoun County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office as Chief Deputy Commonwealth’s Attorney. In her place, Special Counsel Theo Stamos will become Attorney General Miyares' Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Justice and Public Safety.

Attorney General Miyares expressed his confidence in Wittmann's abilities, stating, "Nicole has been an invaluable team member and has served the Commonwealth diligently. Virginians are better off because of her commitment to the rule of law and public safety. I look forward to seeing the positive change she'll bring to Loudoun County as the Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, returning the office’s focus to prioritizing public safety and protecting victims, which has long been missing."

Wittmann has an extensive background in serving the people of Loudoun County, having held positions such as Commonwealth's Attorney, Chief Deputy Commonwealth's Attorney, and Director of the Victim Witness Program. She has specialized in prosecuting various crimes, including sex crimes, crimes against children, human trafficking, child pornography, and domestic abuse. Wittmann's experience and dedication make her an excellent fit for her new role in Loudoun County.

Theo Stamos, who currently serves as the Special Counsel to the Attorney General in charge of Special Investigations, Cold and Actual Innocence Cases, will be stepping into the role of Deputy Attorney General for Criminal Justice and Public Safety. Attorney General Miyares commended Stamos for her unwavering dedication to public service and pursuit of truth. Stamos has a long history in the legal field, having started her career as a prosecutor in 1987. She has also worked in the U.S. Department of Justice, where she served as a state and local law enforcement liaison.

Stamos recently led investigations into the Virginia Parole Board and the Loudoun County School Board, resulting in the termination of the previous superintendent and a successful conviction for retaliatory firing. Her expertise and track record in conducting thorough investigations will be a valuable asset in her new role as Deputy Attorney General.

Both Wittmann and Stamos have been part of the Office of Attorney General since the beginning of Attorney General Miyares' administration in January 2022. Their transition to new roles demonstrates the Attorney General's commitment to assembling a strong team that will prioritize public safety, protect victims, and uphold the rule of law in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

With these senior leadership transitions, Attorney General Miyares is confident that his administration will continue to serve the people of Virginia effectively and ensure justice and safety for all.
