BOSTON (Legal Newsline) — A former Boston College professor says she faced retaliation for having children.

Hristina Nikolova filed a complaint Oct. 26 in Suffolk County Superior Court against Trustees of Boston College, alleging breach of contract, retaliation and other claims.

Nikolova was recruited to join the faculty of Boston College in 2013 as a tenure-track assistant professor of marketing, according to her complaint. She claims that after six years of highly acclaimed research, peer reviews, teaching, service and the promise of tenure, Boston College violated its own promotion and tenure standards.

Specifically, Nikolova claims Boston College suddenly raised concerns over the "impact and independence" of her work despite never having previously stating concerns in her reviews and assessments. She alleges Boston College's concerns only arose after she began having children, taking maternity leave and complaining about gender discrimination.

Nikolova alleges due to Boston College's breach of contract, she was prevented from performing under her contract, denied promotion with tenure and forced to leave for other employment.

Nikolova seeks monetary relief, trial by jury, interest and all other just relief. She is represented by Charles Lamberton of The Lamberton Law Firm LLC in Pittsburgh and Lana Sullivan of The Law Office of Lana Sullivan in Needham.
