Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP partner Stan Jones, who focuses his practice in the areas of healthcare law, governmental relations and public policy, and administrative law, has been named the recipient of the firm’s George B. Cauthen Lifetime Pro Bono Service Award.

The award is given to an individual who has shown a lifelong commitment to pro bono service in their community. Jones’ legal career has spanned 46 years at multiple firms, and he has contributed over 5,000 hours in pro bono work over his 29 years at Nelson Mullins.

Jones has focused his pro bono efforts on advancing legislative reform to improve access to healthcare, mental health services, insurance benefits, job opportunities, and fair treatment across communities. Since working on numerous gubernatorial and presidential commissions for President Jimmy Carter’s family, Jones has been involved in the mental health movement in Georgia spanning five decades.

“Stan’s thoughts and ideas are embedded in so many of our state’s laws and regulations regarding mental health service delivery as well as health and insurance,” said Jones’ longtime colleague and policy advisor Helen Sloat.

This award was established in honor of recently retired Nelson Mullins bankruptcy partner, George Cauthen, who was foundational to establishing Nelson Mullins’ pro bono program 38 years ago and who made extraordinary contributions to create systemic change. Jones is only one of three Nelson Mullins lawyers to ever receive this award.
