LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Legal Newsline) — An Arkansas lawsuit blames an apartment complex for the deaths of two men from a carbon monoxide leak.

Jackie Dickerson, as personal representative of the Estate of Brantley Matt Steen, deceased, and Ursula Dixon, as personal representative of the Estate of Shaun Dixon, deceased, filed a complaint Oct. 16 in Pulaski County Circuit Court against 9210 Kanis Company LLC, doing business as Canopy Apartments, and others, alleging negligence and other claims.

According to the plaintiffs' complaint, the decedents Steen and Dixon were tenants at the Canopy Apartments in Little Rock. They claim the defendants were aware of a carbon monoxide leak in Steen and Dixon's apartment on Oct. 16, 2020, and made efforts to repair the leak on Oct. 17, 2020.

However, on Oct. 19, 2020, Steen and Dixon were found dead in their apartment due to carbon monoxide intoxication. The plaintiffs allege the defendant failed to warn Steen and Dixon of the leak or properly repair the leak. They also allege the defendant's negligence for failing to monitor and inspect the premises or evacuate the tenants.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest and all other just relief. They are represented by William Hackett of Morgan & Morgan in Memphis, Tennessee.
