McNees announced that Erik R. Anderson, a litigator with diverse experience in the public and private sectors, has joined as a member of the firm.

For nearly two decades, Anderson has represented clients at the nexus of government, law and public policy. Often, his clients find themselves confronted by the glare of professional, political, reputational or media scrutiny.

Before transitioning to private practice, Anderson spent nearly a decade in government service — first as a deputy chief counsel with the Pennsylvania General Assembly and then as a deputy attorney general with the Pennsylvania Office of Attorney General (OAG). His career in private practice began in 2015 when he joined a Scranton-based litigation boutique law firm, where he served as the lead lawyer in their Harrisburg office. He later joined a regional law firm as a partner.

Throughout his career, Anderson represented attorneys, law firms and judges responding to ethics inquiries or defending against commonwealth boards. Likewise, he has defended businesses and individuals in white collar government investigations, regulatory enforcement proceedings, federal and state grand jury investigations and trials.

“Erik will be an exceptional resource for our clients. He has the proven ability to lead teams of professionals in sophisticated, complex matters for both public and private sector clients,” McNees Chair Brian Jackson said. “We are thrilled to have him join us.”

Anderson earned his law degree from the Widener University School of Law and his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Delaware. He joins McNees’ government services, litigation, white collar and appellate law teams.

“I have long been impressed with the professionalism and legal acumen of McNees’ attorneys and professionals,” Anderson said. “The reputation this firm has developed in the community for delivering exceptional client service is well earned, and I’m excited to join them in providing premium value to our clients.”

Anderson will be working on government matters with McNees’ government services professionals,  including Drew Crompton, former Commonwealth Court judge and co-chair of the McNees Strategic Solutions Group. Anderson also strengthens McNees’ professional licensing and ethics defense practice, which addresses issues involving professionals licensed through the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs as well as those who are subject to the Judicial Conduct Board, Court of Judicial Discipline and the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.

Recently, Anderson led the successful defense of the General Assembly in cases brought by the Wolf Administration in the Supreme Court and Commonwealth Court.

McNees has experienced significant growth over the past two years, strategically enhancing the firm’s range and reach of client services over the past two years. In addition to the firm’s new suburban Baltimore office, It expanded its geographic footprint across Pennsylvania, first in Devon, Chester County, in February 2021, followed by Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, in December 2021 with a team of eight construction, real estate and corporate attorneys. McNees doubled its bench of legal talent in Frederick, Md., to include attorneys who practice in real estate, construction, corporate and tax law, among others, then relocated the team to a larger office. In April, it launched a new Baltimore County office.

In addition to its legal practice, McNees expanded its title company, Pine Street Land Company, which includes a team of Pennsylvania- and Maryland-licensed title agents that conduct commercial and residential real estate settlements. Beyond serving clients’ legal needs, McNees launched four new ancillary businesses to meet client needs for public relations and strategic communications, municipal consulting, auto dealership transaction services and human resource management and strategy.
