TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — A Florida firefighter is claiming he was denied reasonable accommodations for his PTSD.

Jeremy Rogers filed a complaint Aug. 17 in Leon County Circuit Court against the City of Tallahassee alleging violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other claims.

Rogers, according to his complaint, began working as a firefighter for the City of Tallahassee in May 2010, became fire chief in 2014 and staff lieutenant in April 2015. He claims his mother was killed in "what was believed to be an arson fire" in July 2021 which caused him to suffer PTSD.

Rogers further claims that in September of 2021, he notified his superiors that he struggled to complete arson investigations that involved death and requested additional time to complete his written reports. He alleges that in October of 2021, instead of being given accommodations for the reports, he was threatened with disciplinary action and was required to rewrite reports as a form of harassment.

Rogers filed a grievance through his union in November of 2021 and claims he suffered months of harassment and denials of accommodations despite having the proper medical documentations and protection under the ADA.

Rogers seeks monetary relief of more than $50,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. He is represented by Tiffany Cruz of The Cruz Law Firm PA in Tallahassee.
