ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — The estate of man who was shot and killed at an apartment complex in the Orlando, Fla., area is claiming negligence.

Kamia Galarza also known as Kamia Dimitria Lee Galarza, as personal representative of the Estate of Ashlyn Maurice Anthony, Jr., filed a complaint June 22 in Orange County Circuit Court against Freeman Security Services Inc., and others alleging negligence and wrongful death.

According to the plaintiff's complaint, Anthony was shot and killed on July 12, 2021, while at the Palmetto at East Mil apartments. It claims the attack on Anthony was unprovoked and that the defendants failed to have an adequate amount of security guards on the premises.

The plaintiffs also claims the defendants' negligence for failing to warn residents and invitees of the criminal incidents that took place on and around the premises and that they failed to deter criminal activity on the property. It alleges the defendants also failed to inspect the premises for dangerous conditions or have monitoring devices such as surveillance cameras.

The plaintiff further alleges the defendants' negligence for failing to properly train security guards and implement a plan to patrol the premises. It claims the defendants' actions resulted in the assault and death of Anthony.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief of more than $15,000, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Kyle Jackson, Sr., of Turnbull, Holcomb & Lemoine PC in Atlanta.
