Georgia Lawyers for the Arts (GLA), a nonprofit organization that provides legal assistance and educational programming to artists and arts organizations, recently announced the appointment of John Bowler, a partner in Troutman Pepper’s Intellectual Property Practice Group, as President of its Board of Directors. Bowler, who has served as a Board Member for GLA since 2018, will serve as President for the fiscal year ending June 2024.

Bowler, along with many other Atlanta-based Troutman Pepper attorneys, has volunteered with GLA for years. As President, Bowler will continue the service of predecessors leading the board in doing its work and providing direction toward accomplishing the mission of GLA to serve the legal needs of artists and arts organizations, to promote closer contact and understanding among members of the legal profession and the arts community, and to educate arts about their legal rights and responsibilities.

“I am deeply honored to have been appointed as the President of the GLA Board of Directors. GLA is uniquely qualified to help the legal needs of talented artists and arts organizations throughout the state of Georgia using its network of volunteer and member attorneys to provide free legal assistance to musicians, songwriters, photographers, sculptors, dancers, filmmakers, painters, actors, and artists who would not otherwise be able to afford legal representation and counseling of their rights. Working with our team with these artists and arts organizations over the years has been immensely rewarding,” said Bowler. “I look forward to working closely with Meredith Ragains, our inspirational Executive Director, and our experienced and dedicated Board of Directors.”

Founded in 1975, GLA is a nonprofit dedicated to providing legal support, fostering connections between the legal and arts communities, and educating artists about their legal rights and responsibilities.

“John has been actively involved with GLA for years, and we’re thrilled for him to take the lead and help us continue to achieve our long-term goals. The contributions of our entire team of talented legal professionals are crucial to the success of our organization, as they generously devote their time and resources to nurturing and protecting creativity within our community,” said Ragains.
