WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) — The creator of a legal services marketing program for lawyers claims a New York attorney is illegally using its materials for her own "2-Hour Lifestyle Lawyer" program.
It's All Happening Now LLC, doing business as New Law Business Model (NLBM), filed a complaint June 1 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York against Laura Cowan, doing business as Law Office of Laura E. Cowan PLLC, and Take Big Steps LLC, frequently known as Laura Cowan International LLC, alleging breach of contract and other claims.
NLBM alleges in its complaint that Cowan and her company used, promoted and sold its resource materials without authorization to lawyers to teach and train them how to market and sell their legal services under the brand "2-Hour Lifestyle Lawyer." According to their complaint, NLBM's founder and author of "Wear Clean Underwear: A Fast, Fun, Friendly-and-Essential- Guide to Legal Planning for Busy Parents" and "New Law Business Model: Build a Lucrative Law Practice You (and Your Clients) Will Love," Alexis Neeley, created several combined teachings and courses into the New Business Model Program.
NLBM alleges in September of 2022, Cowan illegally used its licensed curriculum to create the "2-Hour Lifestyle Lawyer" program which is the same work or derivative work from its programs.
NLBM seeks monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Jay Hellman of Westerman Ball Ederer Miller Zucker & Sharfstein LLP in Uniondale, New York.
