Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP is pleased to announce that North Carolina Lawyers Weekly has chosen Charlotte office managing partner Susan Jackson as its 2023 Lawyer of The Year earlier this month.
Jackson was selected for this honor due to her leadership in the legal community in North Carolina as well as her commitment to the practice of law. She has practiced for over 25 years as an intellectual property attorney in North Carolina. Her research as an engineering intern led to being named a sole inventor on a patent for the company for which she worked and inspired her to go to law school to be a patent attorney.
Jackson is a leader in the legal community and serves as a role model for the next generation of attorneys. She was the first female President of the Carolina Patent, Trademark and Copyright Law Association, an organization of intellectual property attorneys in North and South Carolina. She was also the first president and co-founding member of the Charlotte Women’s Bar, the first organization in Charlotte dedicated to the professional development of women attorneys in the legal profession.
According to the publication, The Lawyer of The Year is chosen from among each year’s “Leaders in The Law” class. The selection panel reviews all honorees and chooses the individual they feel best embodies leadership, bar involvement, giving back to the community, and excellence in his or her practice area.
Jackson focuses her practice on patents, trademarks, copyrights, and unfair competition, as well as client counseling, licensing, and opinion work. She places particular emphasis on patent and trademark preparation and prosecution.
