WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) — The families of U.S. Military personnel and contractors are suing the Islamic Republic of Iran over its material support of attacks in Iraq.

Bryce Finger, Aletta White, individually and as the legal representative of the Estate of Frans Robert Brand, and others filed a complaint in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia against Islamic Republic of Iran, alleging intentional infliction of emotional distress and other claims.

According to the plaintiffs' compliant, White is the sister of Frans Robert Brand, who died in August of 2007 while serving as a security specialist during an explosively formed penetrators (EFPs) attack. Finger was injured during a May 2007 attack while traveling in a military convoy traveling through Baghdad, the suit says.

The plaintiffs allege that Iran knowingly and intentionally provided material support and resources to Shia militias for the EFP attacks to enable and encourage acts of terrorism. They further allege Iran is liable for the damages suffered by the attack victims and their families.

The plaintiffs claim the detonation of the Iranian-made EFPs are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of American military personnel and contractors and the wounding of thousands of personnel. They also claim Iran's actions violate 28 U.S. Code § 1605A - Terrorism exception to the jurisdictional immunity of a foreign state.

The plaintiffs seek monetary relief, interest, trial by jury and all other just relief. They are represented by Randy Singer, Kevin Hoffman and Maryam Atty of Singer Davis LLC in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
