Global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP has expanded its White Collar Defense & Special Investigations and Litigation practices with the addition of Kevin G. Walsh as a shareholder in the New Jersey office. Walsh joins from Gibbons P.C., where he co-chaired that firm’s Government & Regulatory Affairs Group and was a member of its Executive Committee. During a period of his work at Gibbons, Walsh also served as the Acting General Counsel of Seton Hall University.

Walsh, who also served as president of the Essex County Bar Association from 2020 to 2021, will focus his practice at Greenberg Traurig on a wide range of matters, including business litigation, internal and government investigations – both criminal and regulatory – white collar defense, and governmental affairs. He has appeared regularly in state and federal courts in New York and New Jersey, and before New Jersey state agencies and government officials, as well as before numerous federal and state prosecutors. From 2003 to 2008, Walsh served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of New Jersey, Criminal Division.

“We welcome Kevin, whose successful history of leadership and client representation in courts and government in New Jersey and nationally is the perfect fit with our award-winning Litigation Practice,” said David Jay and David W. Oppenheim, co-managing shareholders of Greenberg Traurig’s New Jersey office, in a joint statement. The firm’s New Jersey Litigation Practice was named 2022 Litigation Practice of the Year by American Lawyer Media.

“Kevin is a well-known, dedicated, and highly respected member of the New Jersey white collar community,” said Adam Hoffinger, one of the co-chairs of Greenberg Traurig’s White Collar Defense & Special Investigations practice. “He will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience that will enhance our robust white collar defense and government investigations practice.”

Walsh has represented clients in numerous high-profile matters during his career. In 2018, he was engaged as Special Counsel to Seton Hall University to oversee allegations of clergy sex abuse involving adult victims. In his capacity as counsel to several higher education clients, including Stevens Institute of Technology and Caldwell University in a variety of litigation matters, Walsh has overseen complex Title IX investigations, Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) and distance learning compliance matters, defense of employee discrimination claims, and board governance issues.

“With my focus heavily now on investigations and white collar defense matters, there is no better place for me to further build my practice than at Greenberg Traurig, which has a significant number of top former U.S. Attorneys, former Assistant U.S. Attorneys, and other highly skilled prosecutors. The Greenberg Traurig brand is unparalleled for this depth of specific legal talent in New Jersey and beyond,” Walsh said. “I look forward to collaborating with attorneys across the firm’s local, national, and global platform to provide exceptional client service.”

Walsh received a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Seton Hall University. He is a member of the Board of Visitors at Seton Hall University School of Law and has previously served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Scholarship Fund for Inner-City Children, Newark, New Jersey.
