ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) — The estate of a woman who was fatally shot at an apartment complex in Orlando, Fla., is claiming wrongful death.

Kimberly Strange as personal representative of The Estate of Shantaza Shaw, filed a complaint Dec. 30 in Orange County Superior Court against EM Princeton Parc Blue LLC, EM Bentley Blue LLC, Bell Partners Inc., and Melissa Brown alleging wrongful death.

According to Strange's complaint, Shaw was in her vehicle at her apartment complex in Orlando on March 22, 2021, at 1:45 a.m. Strange claims Shaw was attacked by an unknown person, shot at multiple times from outside the car and died from her injuries.

She alleges that the defendants' had no security measures in place at the apartment complex, including barriers for entry, security video camera or adequate lighting. Strange also alleges the defendants failed to monitor or patrol the complex, warn of the lack of security and failed to be aware of the level of criminal activity in the area and threat of crime.

Strange claims the defendants also reduced or eliminated existing security measures  despite the high rate of crime and failed to deter Shaw's attacker.

Strange is represented by Thomas Scolaro and Adam Rose of Leesfield Scolaro PA in Miami and David Lipcon of Lipcon & Lipcon PA in Miami.
