ORLANDO, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - An amateur soccer player blames his league and the owner of the building in which it plays for a brawl between teams.

Juan Sebastian Bonilla Marentes filed a lawsuit Aug. 25 in Florida's Orange County Circuit Court against Orlando Indoor Soccer and HMP Investment, Inc. The lawsuit stems from a fight on July 18, 2021 - Marentes calls it a "brutal attack."

Marentes played for Orlando Red, the suit seems, and was in the "common areas" of the OIS facility, owned by HMP, when a team of players from Chile "began to punch and kick" him and his teammates, the suit says.

"(Marentes) was struck in the face by members and was pushed to the ground, where the brutal attack continued," the suit says.

"During this incident, (Marentes) suffered multiple injuries, including lacerations on his head, a fractured nasal bone, overlying swelling ad contusions throughout the head, face and body during the incident, which required emergency medical care."

Marentes charges negligent security on the part of the defendants who allegedly should have known of the risk of criminal attacks. He is represented by Michael Singh of SSM Law Group in Winter Park.
