BUFFALO, N.Y. (Legal Newsline) – Feta cheese eaters are tricked into thinking the product put out by Lactalis American is actually made in Greece.

That’s according to class action lawyer Spencer Sheehan, who filed suit against the company on Aug. 14 in Buffalo, N.Y., federal court. The company manufactures the President brand of Feta, and on its packages it claims to be “Europe’s Leading Cheese Expert,” the suit says.

It also includes a gold olive branch wreath and “feta” written in ancient-Greek font.

“The labeling gives consumers the impression the product was made in Greece, or at the very least in another European country,” the suit says.

A dictionary definition calling feta a “white Greek cheese” also contributes to confusion when consumers find out the President feta is made in the United States.

“The small print on the bottom of the container discloses that President has ‘over 80 years of French heritage’ and no connection to Greece,” the suit says.

“The bottom panel further states the product is ‘Dist. By Lactalis American Group, Inc., Buffalo NY 14220.’”
