SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) – Doggie Dailies – supplements intended to help dogs dealing with joint pain – are a sham, a class action lawsuit says.
Plaintiff Linda Goshert and lawyers at Bursor & Fisher filed suit Aug. 10 in California federal court against Compana Pet Brands, alleging decades of studies have shown supplements containing glucosamine and chondroitin do not help joint function in dogs.
The supplements at issue are Advanced Hip & Joint Supplement for Dogs, 5-in-1 Multivitamin, Senior Essentials Advanced Hip & Joint and Senior Essentials 10-in-1 Senior Multivitamin. The lawsuit cites a 2003 trial and a 2017 trial that found no benefits for glucosamine and chondroitin.
“The findings in those two studies directly show that Defendant’s product claims about the efficacy of the supplements for improving joint function or treating symptoms of osteoarthritis in dogs are false and misleading,” the suit says.
The products say they “contain glucosamine for joint health” and promote “healthy hips, joints and ligaments, making them misleading, the suit says.
“Defendant is undoubtedly aware of these studies and knows that the Supplements are ineffective,” the suit says. “Nevertheless, it continues to sell them to unsuspecting consumers in California.”
