SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Legal Newsline) - Class action lawyers have teamed to sue S.C. Johnson & Son and Oars + Alps over cosmetics they claim aren't "all natural."

Plaintiff Annemarie Lott filed suit June 1 in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California. She is represented by lawyers at Good Gustafson Aumais in Los Angeles, Shenaq PC in Atlanta and The Keeton Firm in Pittsburgh.

Together, they allege the Oars + Alps brand of cosmetic and beauty products launched in 2015 promised a "men's skincare line that offers affordable, all natural products." But co-founder Mia Duchnowski said in a March 2019 that men don't know the difference between natural and organic, so the company didn't pay for organic ingredients, the suit says.

"And therefore, our products are actually not made with natural ingredients..." the excerpt states.

SCJ bought the company for $20 million in 2019. The lawsuit says its products continued to be labeled natural but contain synthetic ingredients like phenoxyethanol, dimethicone and potassium sorbate.

"Reasonable consumers purchased the Products believing, among other things, that they were accurately represented," the lawsuit says.

"Specifically, reasonable consumers believed that the Products contained accurate label information and representations. Reasonable consumers would not have purchased the Products if they had known about the misrepresentations or would have purchased them on different terms."
