SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - A new lawsuit claims the BEI San Francisco hotel is eavesdropping on guests and employees.
Benny Wong, Ana Henry and Steven Bui filed suit March 29 in San Francisco Superior Court against Davidson Hotel Company, alleging its video surveillance cameras are unlawfully recording private conversations.
The cameras were installed in 2019 and are located in the entryway, lobby and hallways, the suit says.
Wong worked the front desk. "He routinely engaged in numerous face-to-face conversations, both business-related and personal, with hotel customers and long-time residents at BEI," the suit says.
Henry and Bui also worked the front desk. "Because there was no warning that Plaintiffs' private and confidential conversations would be eavesdropped upon or recorded, Plaintiffs had a reasonable expectation that their personal conversations with co-workers, hotel guests, and long-term residents at BEI were, and would remain, private and confined to the parties to the conversation," the suit says.
The suit makes a claim for unlawful recording and seeks $5,000 per violation, as well as attorneys fees. Eric Grover of Keller Grover is the plaintiffs' lawyer.
