BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - A Massachusetts woman is suing Uber over an alleged rape in 2019 by a Ugandan immigrant.

Diane McGregor sued companies Uber and Rasier on March 29 in Suffolk County Superior Court while also naming Daudah Mayanja as a defendant. The case made headlines when criminal charges were filed against Mayanja and he cried in court.

McGregor says she asked to sit in the front seat after Mayanja picked her up because she was feeling carsick. He forcefully penetrated her vagina with his finger without her consent, the suit says, before she escaped the vehicle.

Mayanja is currently incarcerated at South Bay House of Correction and last year filed a lawsuit, representing himself, seeking treatment for Hepatitis B and C. It also seeks $2 million.

McGregor's lawsuit seeks damages for negligence, battery and rape, as well as vicarious liability and negligent hiring and supervision on the parts of the corporate defendants.
