TAMPA, Fla. (Legal Newsline) - A Florida Dunkin' Donuts location faces a lawsuit after a bungled handoff resulted in a woman being burned by hot coffee.

Kim Simon sued Suncoast Donuts March 24 in Hillsborough County Circuit Court, alleging the defendant, which operates a Dunkin' Donuts in Lutz, is to blame for injuries she suffered in May 2021.

"Defendant's employee handed Plaintiff her hot coffee, holding the hot drink by the lid and when Plaintiff took the coffee from the employee, the lid came off of the cup and hot coffee spilled onto Plaintiff's wrist and thigh, causing serious and permanent physical injury to Plaintiff," the suit says.

Simon says she suffered severe and permanent injury and pain and suffering.

"(A)n employee of the defendant failed to watch out for the safety of patrons when handling a hot drink," the suit says.

Simon is represented by Jonathan Rotstein of Law Office of Rotstein & Shiffman in Daytona Beach.
