NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) - Uber faces a lawsuit that takes aim at its "upfront pricing."
Sonia Spates, through lawyers at Reese LLP, filed a proposed class action lawsuit on Nov. 30 in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. An Upfront Pricing claim is a bait-and-switch scheme, the suit says.
"Defendant promises consumers one price to entice them to use Uber for transportation, to then surreptitiously charge the consumers a high(er) price later," the suit says.
Because Uber has users' credit card information, it can offer an "upfront price" before overcharging them, the suit says.
Spates says this happened to her several times while using the ride-sharing service and says Uber's claim that "riders no longer have to guess at prices, they can avoid surprises" is misleading to customers.
