New Balance sued over 'Made in USA' claims

BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - A popular shoemaker faces a new class action lawsuit that alleges "Made in USA" claims are false.

A group of plaintiffs represented by the firms Reardon Scanlon of Connecticut and Bursor & Fisher of California filed its lawsuit Dec. 20 in Massachusetts federal court against New Balance regarding claims made about its MADE footwear.

A demand letter sent before the lawsuit says these sneakers have up to 30% foreign components, including Chinese-made soles.

"Indeed, Defendant has been called out by the FTC for its deceptive representations," the lawsuit says. "Yet Defendant continues to knowingly make these misrepresentations because consumers are willing to pay more for products that they believe are actually made in the United States."

Class members were harmed by paying for a product than they would have had they known the shoes contained foreign material, the suit claims.
