Gosar: Democrats to play mind games on oil execs at upcoming Oversight hearing

WASHINGTON (Legal Newsline) - Democrats in Washington are “hell-bent" on demonizing all domestic energy production, according to Rep. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), who says the grilling of Big Oil executives in committee Thursday will serve to destroy traditional energy while pumping up the green industrial complex

Gosar, who serves on Oversight, said the committee's chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) and Environment subcommittee chair Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) will seek confession from the executives on “the harm of their products."

“The game they have advertised is to play ‘gotcha’ with trick questions so they can claim the industry representatives lied to Congress,” Gosar said. “That is the primary goal of this hearing. What Congress should be doing is asking how it can create policies that will help us become energy independent, and how we can make energy affordable and reliable.”

Gosar said that if the left wing of Congress was serious about advancing green energy policies, they would be backing nuclear energy "all day long."

"As chair of the Congressional Nuclear Caucus, I can tell you how few on the left support this transformative green energy," Gosar said. "In light of their irrational dismissal of nuclear energy, we can question their motives on why and what they are seeking to accomplish with zero carbon emissions by such notoriously unreliable, expensive, environmentally damaging sources like solar and wind.

"These people live in a fairy land if they think they can run a country and a manufacturing base on some solar panels."

Just a few days after the hearing, President Biden and several members of his cabinet will attend the 26th-annual Climate Change Conference in Glasgow, Scotland, on Oct. 31. LA Times reported that several nations are pressured to announce aggressive climate change action plans at the event, similar to the goals Biden announced earlier this year.

Biden's climate spending plans have received fierce backlash from energy analysts at Real Clear Energy and the Heartland Institute; senior fellow on environmental policy H. Sterling Burnett, Ph. D., wrote earlier this month that "green energy mandates and taxes, fees, and regulations that shut down the use of fossil fuels are bad for people, bad for the environment, and will do nothing to prevent climate change."

The President's Build Back Better proposal, which has stalled in the Senate, contains tens of billions in tax credits for electric vehicle purchases, expanded abatements to wind and solar facilities and billions more in funding for mass transit investments.

The Hill reported that one of the main goals in passing Build Back Better in time to tout its success at the summit is to boost Biden's standing on the international stage amid low polling.

According to The Hill, former president Obama attended the same climate conference in 2015, where he pledged action to lessen U.S. carbon emissions. In the succeeding Trump era, more than 20 Obama carbon emission and air pollution rules were rolled back.

"Biden has been on the wrong side of history on every key issue, from foreign policy to domestic policy and energy," Gosar commented. "I will fight against any silly nonsense coming from the White House or in the halls of Congress."

The Arizona Republican said the oil and gas industry has brought "unparalleled prosperity" to the U.S. through mining, extraction and the products that can be manufactured from petroleum.

"Rather than demonize and attack, we need to ask how we can make it easier to drill, ship and deliver their products," he said.

"Under President Trump, the U.S. achieved energy independence. Just nine months later, rising energy prices are the direct result of the Biden administration’s efforts to decrease access to American energy resources while begging [the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries] with tin cup in hand to increase production to accommodate energy demand."
