BOSTON (Legal Newsline) - A Massachusetts woman has filed a lawsuit in Suffolk County Superior Court against Uber Technologies that alleges driver Michael Squadrito raped her while she was intoxicated and in his car.

The complainant was a passenger in an Uber vehicle on operated by Squadrito on Nov. 6, 2018, when he allegedly raped her in his car while she was under the influence of alcohol, says the lawsuit, which was filed in September. Squadrito has had a criminal charge for rape brought against him that is currently pending in Suffolk Superior Court.

Media reports after criminal charges detail Squadrito's claim that the sex was consensual.

The victim alleges that Uber is also at fault for the incident as Uber was aware that numerous drivers have allegedly sexually assaulted many female customers who were using the Uber app for rides and Uber knew that its historically lax screening procedures for its drivers has resulted in thousands of women reportedly being sexually assaulted.

The plaintiff seeks damages as allowed by the law plus costs and attorney's fees. She is represented by Jeffrey N. Caralano.
