Woman sues clothing store, claims false discounts

Federal Court
Lawsuit

LOS ANGELES (Legal Newsline) - A class action lawsuit claims discounts are an illusion at Donna Karan stores.

Matilda Dahlin, on behalf of herself and all others similarly situated, filed a federal class action complaint on September 28 in the Central District of California against The Donna Karan Company Store LLC for violation of California’s Unfair Competition Law, violation of California’s False Advertising Law and violation of California’s Consumers Legal Remedies Act.

Dahlin alleges that she purchased DKNY-branded clothing items for sale at a deeply “discounted” price, but like many stores, the Donna Karan Company Store practices false reference pricing by fabricating a false “original” price then offering it a "discounted" price.

In reality, the practice artificially inflates the true market price for these items by raising consumers’ internal reference price, and therefore the value, ascribed to these products by consumers, the suit claims.

Dahlin seeks monetary damages, restitution, declaratory and injunctive relief, cost of suit and attorney's fees. Dahlin is represented by Todd D. Carpenter of Carlson Lynch LLP.
