Himalayan salt not from the Himalayas, class action lawsuit against Morton says

Federal Court
Morton

SAN FRANCISCO (Legal Newsline) - Victoria Brown and Heather Blum filed a federal class action suit  on September 2 in the Northern District of California against Morton Salt, Inc. for violation of Consumers Legal Remedies Act, violation of Unfair Competition Law, violation of False Advertising Law, breach of expressed warranty and breach of implied warranty.

The complaint alleges Morton Salt markets and sells salt products as “Himalayan” and “harvested from ancient sea salt deposits deep within the Himalayas.

Morton is able to charge consumers more money for its salt products because Himalayan pink salt is supposedly mined in the pristine Himalayan Mountains, which are rich in iron, making customers willing to pay more for the salt. The lawsuit alleges customers would not pay as much had they known that the salt is not mined from the Himalayas.

The suit seeks declaratory and injunctive relief, attorney's fees and cost of suit. Plaintiffs are represented by L. Timothy Fisher.
