NEW YORK (Legal Newsline) -- A professor is suing her employer for allegedly not paying her equally in comparison to her male co-workers.

Irinia Manta filed a complaint on June 29 in New York County Supreme Court against Hofstra University for discrimination and retaliation.

According to the complaint, Irina Manta, a law professor at the Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University, began working for the university in July 2012 as an Associate Professor with a starting salary $129,000. Manta alleges that as she gained tenure, male professors were making anywhere from $10,000-$52,000 more than her annually, despite her having more experience and time with the school.

Manta seeks compensatory damages, emotional distress and humiliation, punitive damages and liquidated damages. Manta is represented by Kevin Mintzer.
