NEW ORLEANS (Legal Newsline) -- A Louisiana law firm has brought suit against consultants over a seven-figure dispute.
The Dugan Law Firm filed a complaint on May 14 in the Civil District Court for the Parish of Orleans against Kurtzman Carson Consultants LLC for breach of contract. The defendant removed the case to New Orleans federal court on June 8.
According to the complaint, the Dugan Law Firm retained the services of Kurtzman Carson Consultants, LLC on June 19, 2015, to assist with client intake and retention, client communication, medical record retrieval and review, plaintiff fact sheet (PFS) completion and filing, discovery assistance, settlement negotiation, lien resolution, and funds disbursements for mass tort litigation.
In September of 2018, both companies met to discuss discrepancies in invoicing and pricing for the mass tort inventory of clients and Dugan Law Firm paid $30,726.77 as a "break-up" fee. The check was received and cashed by Kurtzman Carson Consultants LLC in January of 2019.
Two years later, Kurtzman Carson Consultants allegedly sent an invoice for $286,370.67. Between January 2019 and February 2021, Dugan Law Firm also allegedly paid $479,526.47. Kurtzman Carson Consultants LLC then presented a total bill to Dugan Law Firm totaling more than $2.5 million and Dugan Law Firm is disputing the bill.
Dugan Law Firm seeks the bill be disputed the firm only owe what is left to be paid, attorney's fees and costs of suit. Dugan Law Firm is representing themselves.
